Hotel Tips for a Quick and Easy Check-In
Traveling is always stressful. Maybe you've been driving all day with your screaming children in the backseat. Or perhaps you've been sitting uncomfortably in an airplane seat, trying unsuccessfully to take a nap. And nothing can cap off a tense day of traveling like hold-ups and problems when you check in at your hotel. But there are ways to prevent hassles when you arrive.
First of all, always make a reservation. There's nothing worse than arriving at your hotel, only to find the town is having some sort of event and everyone is booked up solid. It's always a good idea to reserve whether you think you'll need to or not.
If you choose to reserve through a third-party company that charges you in advance, like Expedia or Hotels.com, make sure that all the information is correct. Pay particular attention to arrival dates, especially if you are arriving early in the morning. If you are going to arrive in the early morning ours, make your reservation for the day before the day you'll be arriving. Most hotels days do not roll over until sometime between 2 and 3:00 AM. It's advisable to call the hotel to ask for this information in advance.
In general, it's better to simply make your reservation through the hotel itself. While third-party companies may be convenient, they add complications if problems arise and your reservation needs to be altered. Since the company is paying the hotel and not you, the information on the reservation must match the one they sent and any changes must be approved by them. Making your reservation through the hotel itself also affords you a chance to get a better understanding of the features the property offers, as you will be speaking with someone who actually knows about it specifically.
